Foundations in Applied Science Series:

Part 1 - Muscle Structure, Function & Testing

Part 2 - Biomechanics of Exercise Prescription

Gone are the days of the original methods of manual muscle testing for understanding muscle function. While it may still have a role in day to day practice to ascertain the clinical needs of the patient, the nature of Physical therapy and Strength Diagnostics have become an integral part of understanding injury and returning any individual back to peak performance.

In Part 1 of each Muscle group: We will explore how the practitioner can assess the key structural aspects of each individual muscle group. How they can evaluate and apply the anatomical and architectural principles to their profile, and how they can build a battery of clinical tests to complement the strength diagnostics.

Then how the therapist or S&C coach can apply different testing parameters to answer different questions:

How to differentiate pathological components;

When are they functionally ready to move stages in the rehab;

How the testing can support and integrate with other metrics;

How to change the test for the same muscle group at different stages of rehab

and when are performance markers really met

Finally, in Part 2 of each muscle group:

We will explore how the testing battery in part 1 can inform your exercise prescription. Also, what the evidence says for specific exercises and how they can in turn influence and augment the anatomy, architecture and function of the individual.

Most importantly, you’ll learn how to apply the science in a practical way for immediate impact.

Specifically James will explore:

• How does Anatomy and Architecture influence function, movement and ultimately testing

• How functional demands on different tissues and different movements, should form a foundation of your testing protocols.

• How “one size fits all” testing should change depending on the question(s) being asked and the stage of the rehab / performance process

• How the Anatomy, Architecture, Function and Testing should influence your exercise prescription

• What specifically does the research and applied biomechanics tell us about optimising exercise prescription

These Foundation webinars are all part of a series and follow on from one another ( You can choose to join just one, purchase two of the same muscle group for a discount or buy all 8 for the best deal. For the complete series and all other Bundled offers please see the website!)
