Overview

Hip and Groin pain is a common presentation in clinical practice in a variety of patient groups; In some sports it is one of the most common sites of pain and the pubis is the most common site of abnormality on imaging. In pregnancy pubic pain is common and often disabling. In many groups hip joint pathology occurs frequently.

The complexity of managing hip and groin presentations is firstly one of diagnosis, which in turn relates to the complicated anatomy of the region, interrelationships between pathologies and the imprecision of our assessment tools. For this reason, an important tenet of clinical reasoning is to maintain an awareness of all possible explanations for your patient’s symptoms and their respective causal factors, to test for them and address all competing diagnoses and contributing influences.

This webinar will focus on one common group of potential interactions – those relating to the lumbopelvic complex. We will look at the assessment of spinally mediated pain, peripheral neurogenic sources of pain and the interactions of SIJ pain and pelvic control.

In this webinar Howard will look at:

  • The difficulties in differential diagnosis of the hip and groin area, in particular
    • The power and the limitations of our assessment tools, within the
    • Principles of clinical reasoning such as hypothesis generation and testing
  • Patterns and signs of spinal involvement
  • Physiology, mechanisms, and assessment for peripheral neurogenic pain
  • Pelvic mechanics, control, assessment, and treatment
