Injury to the ACL has significant implications in terms of return to activity, future ACL injury and, other significant knee injuries such as osteoarthritis. Despite, a large volume of research literature on ACL injury and reconstruction, very little relates to rehabilitation of these injuries, which might in part be associated with the relatively poor outcomes.
Along with the lack of consensus on rehabilitation and criterion related outcome measures another factor significantly impacting on outcome could be a failure to integrate psychological factors (in a broad sense) into rehabilitation practices.
With rehabilitation practices inadequately considering the cognitive impact of the injury and subsequent surgery and failing to align aspects of rehabilitation to the principles of motor skill learning.
This presentation aims to introduce the latter concepts and show potential means of incorporating them into the rehabilitation programme.
In this webinar Lee will:
- Provide data on outcome from ACL injury & reconstruction
- Discuss the psychological factors limiting outcomes from ACLR
- Develop an understanding of how cognitive bandwidth influences rehabilitation
- Present a rehabilitation paradigm to cognitive bandwidth & reduce psychological stress
