The groin region accounts for nearly 13% of all sports injuries; whilst the hip can be implicated in 1 in every 2 lumbo-pelvic and thigh injuries. This course is a new version of the original course and follows a similar framework.

It will cover the latest thinking in differential diagnosis and draw links between clinical practice and evidenced based research. Putting into context the balance between the notion of clinical entities and the various consensus statements that have been published to provide clarity in the clinical paradigm, to help with the diagnosis and treatment approach for the patient in front of you.

This courses is based on 4 pillars of learning, evaluation and prescription;

Structure; Function; Movement; Metabolism

Day 1, Initially the course will delve into the detailed anatomy and architecture (structure) of each muscle group and how they interact with each articulation.

What are the natural and sporting biomechanics (function & movement) of the hip and groin region and how does this influence both pathology and assessment?

Region by region we will explore the pathologies that can present to the clinician and how to effectively differentially diagnose each clinical component.

Day 2, will take the information from day 1 and build into higher level sporting function, then how to integrate strength diagnostics, movement and capacity (metabolism) based assessments. we will cover each pathological region and what early intermediate and advanced loading strategies can look like. We will finish by exploring what Return to Play looks like by utilising protocols for post op FAIS and a muscle injury RTS paradigm.

The original Sporting Hip & Groin course was first established in 2004, and has been delivered to over 6000 therapists in the UK and world wide. The course covers a collection of published research articles and ideas brought together by the teachings of many leading clinicians we have come into contact with over the years. We have drawn on experiences with track and field over a nine year period, four Olympic cycles, (Beijing 2008 & London 2012; Rio 2016; Tokyo 2020); through time in professional rugby (England and Saracens); consulting for some of the top clubs in the Premier League, Championship and Internationally for over 15 years; Our aim is to piece together all the research and place into context for clinical practice providing a framework for assessing and treating what is a challenging yet rewarding area -The Sporting Hip & Groin.
