A recording of: Understanding Individual tissue stress & strain; the missing link in exercise prescription.

How addressing this can increase movement variability, reduce risk & build resilience in performance.

Historically, Physiotherapy has progressed the use of exercise prescription from remedial gymnastics; to group based exercises; to specific movement control and motor learning with a focus on the CNS and, now there are more Physios turning to Strength & Conditioning (S&C).

Commonly, S&C can focus on outcomes (faster, stronger), and physio can focus on exercise selection and execution (Nordics & Copenhagens) to get the desired results. However, the key question revolves around Specific Adaptation, two of the key principles in S&C.

Specific tissues adapt in different ways and over different timelines and require different stimuli to evoke the desired responses.

Both physio and S&C are necessary for optimal performance, but a one sided approach creates gaps. In this seminar, we’ll cover concrete principles to bridge those gaps, bringing the best of these disciplines together, under one roof.

Specifically James will explore:

  • How to determine exercise selection and adjust training variables based on desired response

  • Parameters for determining the timeline for adaptation in different tissue types (and how to adjust for each).

  • How to use a simple system of analysis to understand risk and exposure around injury and performance.

  • Why the difference between stress and strain affects the application of load.

  • How to create specific markers and milestones to guide progression
